Volunteers meet on Sunday mornings @ 7:30am by church office to drive together or volunteers can drive separately from their homes. About Volunteering: At 8:30 am, we go inside the jail and meet with inmates for what is called Sunday Services. We meet with several inmates at a time who have signed up previously to attend. We meet in rooms with only a table and chairs. Volunteers only carry a Bible into the jail, and other materials cleared by the Chaplain. Then after being wanded by police officers we go inside the jail cells areas. Many of the inmates have Bibles and are eager to get into the Word. Some inmates are there because they are just curious or skeptical. Jail Volunteers share the Gospel of Christ. There is no curriculum prepared for the volunteers. Volunteers may bring a reading from the Bible, prepare a short lesson, and sometimes we sing praise songs. Personal testimonies are shared with the inmates. Usually the meeting takes place for about 20 minutes. We may meet with one or more groups.
Each volunteer is blessed greatly in meeting with these inmates. The message of Christ that we talk about in the worship services is often taken back into the cells later. They tell others about what was spoken in the Sunday Services that morning. There is also a great need for more Bibles at the jail.Volunteers have to be out of the facility by 10:00am. We usually can make it back to church second service at NPFCC, just in time for second service and praise songs!
It takes approximately two or three weeks for a clearance check. This process of clearing everyone takes funds from the Jail Chaplain Ministry fund, so only serious individuals should apply for this ministry.
Once you are cleared, you will be able to visit the Todd Road Jail or the main Ventura County Jail. The chaplain will then call you personally and the team leader when the applicant is cleared.

Inmates in the County Jail need new or used Bibles all the time. Please donate any new or previously read softcover Bibles.
